I'm finally getting a chance to type a few words here. Matt started the blog because we don't have internet access at home and so we can't constantly check Facebook anymore. So, here we are. The idea is that we can type some things at home, and me, during the day, and Matt can post them during his work breaks. Well, I've been learning that...
- I love holding, staring at, cooing at, talking to Arthur. This makes typing difficult.
- I am not as proficient at one-handed typing as I was in junior high. I never should have learned two-handed typing!
- I am getting good at fetching things with my feet, mostly from coffee table to arms while nursing. But, I still can't type with my feet.
Arthur has been teaching me many other things also:
- Sleep. Sleep when you can!
- Eat. Eat when he's not looking! Eat before you're hungry. Arthur and I seem to get hungry at exactly the same time. It is quite a sight to see me realize this after he has been sleeping for a long time. Suddenly I hear some grunts, anticipate the sweet nursing to come, but realize OH NO! I am hungry too. This sets off frantic hunting and gathering in the kitchen by me. When I see time doesn't allow my usual dally of indecision I take to the roasted pumpkin seeds, a hunk of bread, a hunk of cheese, a big glass of milk, maybe cereal. I think I can make and eat a bowl of cereal in 1 min. 38 seconds.
- Daily accomplishment. This is a happy baby, sleep, and perhaps a load of laundry, a clean rack of dishes, a walk, and some reading.
- Parenting is a lot like wilderness trip leading: 1) every task takes about twice longer than if you were doing it alone...so plan accordingly!, 2) the best pleasures are often the simplest (a hot cup of tea, a clear morning, a good sleep, a beautiful view/smile, time with friends/family), 3) ultimately, you are not in control! So, accept God's help, grace and hold fast to His hope and peace.
- When in doubt, get outside. Arthur LOVES the fresh, cold fall air. It usually puts him to sleep and wakes me up. I'm glad he likes being outside.
Those are a few things I've been learning. I have also beenlearning (and probably thinking too much about) green poop vs. mustard poop, foremilk and hindmilk, thrush symptoms, different types of diaper rash, best bathing methods, when to introduce a bottle, etc. etc. but I'll leave that for some other time.
The little papi, jefe, juajito, gordito, Arturito is making smiles, grunts and pooping faces I don't want to miss.
